John Barrowman releases statement on Hypable's April Fools Prank

Hypable

On April Fool's day, Hypable.com ran an April Fool's story titled "'Doctor Who sets John Barrowman as new showrunner." The article states that longtime showrunner Steven Moffat would be stepping down after this year's Christmas special. On April 2nd the article was updated to say "April Fools" in bold just under the headline.

Unfortunately, as is the case with many April Fool's day pranks the article continued to be run as a Facebook ad for nearly a week after April 1st. Today John Barrowman released a statement on his Official Facebook Fan Page, through his Whosay account.

"I have no idea where this came from or what it means but I can tell you all the rumors going around are not true." Mr. Barrowman posted, and attached the following screen capture from Facebook mobile:

Many fans commented on Barrowman's post expressing their displeasure at the prank. A small sampling of fan comments includes: "If only." "Ah I wish it was true!!!" "Would be good though."

In addition to his well-known acting credits John Barrowman has dabbled as a writer, his debut novel, released in 2012, was titled "Hollow Earth," and was co-written with his sister Carole. The third book in the Hollow Earth series, Book of Beasts, will be released in October of this year. Barrowman also penned several novels based on the Doctor Who spinoff series "Torchwood," and two autobiographies.

Barrowman can currently be seen on television as Malcolm Merlyn in the CW's Arrow.
