Star Wars Celebration Day 4: Rogue One Awakens

The final day of Star Wars Celebration was short, but booooy was it sweet. We learned more than we ever thought we would about the first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One, we saw the props from The Force Awakens, and we learned about next year's Celebration for the first time. Spoilers abound from this point on.

A Chat with Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank

I admit, I missed this panel because I thought it was going to be a fluff panel - a few conversations about how excited they were to make Star Wars movies, and no new information. After all, they weren't going to reveal anything this far out. Boy was I wrong. Gareth Edwards took the stage to reveal the plot synopsis and a teaser trailer for his film, Rogue One. We'd already known the title and star of this film, but now we know it's a war film, with no Jedi at all, following the original daring plan to steal the Death Star plans. (Sorry, fans of Kyle Katarn and Havet Storm and anyone else who stole the plans in the EU. )

The title image of this article is concept art, but they also showed the briefest of CG teaser trailers. There were fancam versions, but they have been systematically hunted down by Disney, so here's the description we posted on the day:

They also announced that Grieg Frasier, the Director of Photography from Zero Dark Thirty, as well as many crew members from films like Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down were working on the film. The idea is to make a "war movie" in the Star Wars universe, which will be gritty and a little more real. Hopefully, it'll still feel like a Star Wars film when they're done.

The Force Awakens Props and Costumes

After a short three hour wait, we managed to get in to see the props and costumes from The Force Awakens in an exhibit that Disney had put on the convention center's second floor. It was a tiny, dark room, but the costumes and props on display were incredible. Check out our pictures:

Closing Ceremonies

We also missed the Closing Ceremonies, which sounded like a great time. It was announced that the next Celebration will take place July 15-17th, in London. Sounds like they're making a run at competing with Comic-con, which will be a huge deal.

Thanks, everyone, for coming on this ride with us. We hope you enjoyed it, and we'll see you soon for the next major convention!
